Classic full-grooved Deptford ax may be the best of its type and one of the few from North Carolina (Caswell County). 4” by 9 ¼.” Ex-Billy Bush and Floyd Ritter.

The Deptford culture (800 BC—700 AD) was an archaeological culture in southeastern North America characterized by the appearance of elaborate ceremonial complexes, increasing social and political complexity, mound burial, permanent settlements, population growth, and an increasing reliance on cultivated plants.
